Dyn ni’n defnyddio’r amser yma i gyfeirio at y gorffennol, you were… Mae’n dod o ‘BOD’, ac yn cael ei ddefnyddio gyda hoffi, byw, meddwl, gwybod, nabod ac eisiau pan dyn ni’n defnyddio’r gorffennol yn Saesneg.

We use this tense, when referring to the past, for something you ‘were’ doing. It comes from the verb ‘bod’, and it is often used with the verbs hoffi, byw, meddwl, gwybod, nabod and eisiau where in English we use the past tense.

  • Ro’n i’n byw
  • I liked
  • I lived

Byddwch chi'n clywed 'Ro'n i', ond efallai yn gweld a chlywed 'Roeddwn i'.
You will hear 'Ro'n i', but may see and hear 'Roeddwn i'.

I ofyn cwestiwn mae angen colli’r ‘R’
When asking a question the ‘R’ is dropped.
O’ch chi'n aros mewn gwesty? Were you staying in a hotel?

Yn y negyddol mae ‘D’ yn lle ‘R’ ac mae ‘ddim’ yn dilyn.
In a negative sentence the ‘R’ is replaced with a ‘D’ and ‘ddim’ added.

Doedd Tom ddim eisiau siopa. Tom didn't want to shop.
